The Spa at Painted Boat
The spa was designed to promote wellness and harmony with nature. The organic building form was placed in a natural setting between the trees and blends into the natural environment. One of the 5 elements, being wood, provided the language used throughout the building. The structure is expressed as natural round timbers throughout the building, and natural cedar shingles gently follow the curving exterior. Wood is featured prominently on the ceilings and is used as screening to define exterior spaces. Millwork and furniture is constructed in vertical grain fir, and reflects the materials of the building. The natural colour of the wood is maintained through the use of clear finishes both on the interior and exterior. The result is a quiet, poetic building reflecting the beauty of the natural wood elements in its surroundings.
