Etosha for dinner
Posted on in Travel.
Yesterday was a long drive out of the desert on amazing gravel roads, through passes and water crossings to the capital of Namibia, Windhoek. It sits over 5000 feet above sea level against a mountain backdrop. It was strange to come out of the bush into a bustling city filled with cars and people again.
The plan was to spend the day here and get underway with my camping trip, but a few beers gave another plan. Henk, one of our guides said he had a friend with a house beside etosha park about 500 km from here, and said we should go up for dinner!!! one of the other riders wanted to come along, the problem being that he had a flight to catch this morning. Well we decided to go anyway, leaving at 2 in the afternoon and getting there at 7 just in time for the sunset. The landscape changed and the number of wildlife sitings increased. The place was something special with a patio overlooking a watering hole. When we got there 3 rhinos and a giraffe were drinking. There was even a tunnel constructed leading to a small viewing port right next to the water.
We had a meal and slept under the stars waking whenever a new animal came to drink. We had our alarm set for 4 am and just got back in time for Chris to get to the airport.
I’m now alone and on my way to the Botswana border for tonight. I hope to get to Maun tomorrow beside the Okovongo delta.
